A Humbling Look
at the Universe

Try to get your understanding around the scope of what you're going to see.
Don't forget, the Earth is about 25,000 miles around with a mass of
6,600,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons!

Not too hard, right? Well, compare that one with this...

Well, not too bad...those other planets ARE quite a bit larger than ours...

Remember the Sun can hold about a million earths (a million!)...

But it's just a garden variety, very average star...teeny in some respects...

Here the Sun is just one pixel! Betelgeuse ("beetlejuice") is one of the corners stars in Orion...and
Antares is the 15th brightest star in the heavens, yet it is 1000 light years away!

ABOVE IS A HUBBLE TELESCOPE ULTRA DEEP FIELD INFRARED VIEW OF
COUNTLESS 'ENTIRE' GALAXIES BILLIONS OF LIGHT-YEARS AWAY.

And if we just peek into one of the darkest regions in the shot above, here's what we find...

Always more and more and more and more and more and more and more...

And yet, despite how humbling this may make you feel, the complexity within you
is such that there is not a being exactly like you in all that incredible space...wow, dude...
